Interreligions Peace Sports Festival

IPSF Religious Advisor:

At the Interreligious Peace Sports Festival each of the World’s Religions will have a Religious Advisor.

The Religious Advisor (RA) is in a position to work as a member of the Interreligious Committee before and during the IPSF Festival. One of the keys to the success of the IPSF is the ability of the Interreligious Committee to cooperate and model the heart and zeal necessary in build harmonious partnerships dedicated to serving others.

The Interreligious Committee has several responsibilities. Among the most critical is that of preparing for the morning devotional period. The committee will work in accord with the themes of the day that the IPSF has designed in order to promote a clear path to reaching our goals. They will decide which days to focus on religions offering their own devotional and which days will become joint interreligious efforts. In the past, we have had prayer walks and nature walks as part of cooperative interreligious expression.

Religious Advisor works to create these morning programs as to reflect an aspect of their rich religious heritage. The central purpose for this time is to spiritually prepare the athletes for their day and also to give observers a taste or expression of that religions religiosity.

The Religious Advisor may be the reference person for people of that religion who seek some guidance or counseling or they can simply be the knowledgeable resource for the curious to ask questions.

The Religious Advisors are to help in the selection of the Spirit of Sportsmanship Award, which is awarded to an athlete from each religion that best represents the spirit of sportsmanship on and off the field.

Religious Advisors may be asked to pray at public functions or help in giving certain events a more ‘spiritual’ tone.

Religious Advisors may have suggestions and contributions that should be included in the IPSF World Religion’s Exhibition. This exhibition will display representative religious items that the participants, Religious Advisors and the staff bring.

Religious Advisors should take with them the spirit of embracing not only their co-religionists but have an embracing heart to all those participating. Religious Advisors are not meant to convert or convince but rather to model the spirit of their religions founders.
